WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
  • Mindfulness is about being present and being here with kindness.  
  • It is about connecting more with the body than with our thoughts.
  • It takes practice and the classic course is taught over 8 wks.
  • Mindfulness is good for you and anyone can do it. 
Mindfulness is a way of gently focusing attention which can break negative emotional loops, so that life becomes meaningful again.
Through meditation, mindfulness can enable one to see things differently, undoing mental and physical knots and tensions. It can increase your sense of personal confidence, of having more options and more strength to face challenges. It can bring you into the “now” and from the “now” a better quality of life develops.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is the largest and best-known stress reduction programme in the world. It was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical department in the 70’s. It has benefitted people suffering from stress, stress-related conditions and chronic pain as well as many others whose needs were less acute but who sought a better understanding of self and an improved quality of life.

The UK`s N.I.C.E. National Institute for Clinical Excellence recommends the training as a means to significantly reduce the incidence of depressive relapse.

The core skill that you will learn is ‘mindfulness’ – a way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgementally, to what goes on in the present moment in your body, mind, and the world around you.

 

     

 

 

Guided meditation on retreat by the river

Alison Prideaux teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction through a range of courses, residential retreats or online individual sessions in both English or French.  Whether you are able to commit to a programme of regular group sessions, want to immerse for a few days on retreat, or just need some regular support in your own home, Alison can provide guidance and assistance that is right for you.
